About

Peter Robinson MA (b 1944) was educated at Leicester College of Art and The Royal College of Art.

During a long career in documentary photography, he also shot some sports events.

These include 13 world cups and 9 Olympic Games, not to mention the hundreds of football matches in England and Europe in the 60’s and 70’s.

Peter’s football images from 98 countries have been featured in more than 50 books, thousands of magazines and liberally sampled by football social media.

His monograph ‘Football Days’ is a best-selling illustrated book on football and is regarded as a definitive work on the subject. The follow-up book ‘1966 Uncovered’ is a visual record of the 1966 World Cup. Both books were awarded ‘Illustrated Sports Book of The Year.’

“I don’t see photography as just a window-like medium that describes the world out there, that objectifies it, it can also be a self-reflective process too, so maybe one could say 10,000 football matches have allowed me to have quite a few moments of self-reflection.”
